Walking is a great exercise to add to your daily routine. You can do it anytime, just about anywhere, and doesn’t essentially require any special equipment.
All you need is a good pair of walking shoes.
Do you walk on the pavement, on dirt paths, on even or uneven surfaces? Are you a slow walker or a brisk walker? The type of walking you practice is a major factor when choosing the right walking shoes.
Look for these factors the next time you go for walking shoes shopping-
Shock absorption- When we walk, our heels tend to touch the ground first. So you should always go for shoes that provide extra shock absorption in the heel.
Stability- Buy the kind of shoes that help you to balance your weight throughout the range of ankle and foot motion while you’re walking.
Comfort- A comfortable shoe is something you can never choose to ignore. It’s absolutely mandatory to have enough space for your toes to move freely. Make sure you have at least about a half inch space between the end of your longest toe and the front of the shoe.
Some people may have to keep their particular health issues in mind while shopping for their walking shoes. Three of the most common health problems which people usually face are excessive pronation, leg-length discrepancies, and Diabetes:
Excessive pronation- With time, excessive pronation can cause the arch of your foot to flatten, which we generally call “flat feet.” People with this condition may feel more comfortable using an orthotic shoe insole which provides support to your mid-foot.
Leg-length discrepancies- People having this condition may require either an orthotic shoe insert or a heel or sole lift which is added to the exterior of the shoe.
Diabetes- Diabetes patients need to be extra careful and attentive towards their foot care and choice of shoe. Make sure that your shoes fit you properly and are not very tight. And also, be sure to check your feet daily to keep a tab on whether or not you’re developing any blisters or sores from your footwear.
Remember with the right pair of shoes, anyone can be Cinderella.
