You’ll come across two kinds of people in this world: first, who choose to be happy, and second, who choose to be unhappy. Happiness doesn’t really come from fame, fortune, other people, or any material possessions. It comes from within yourself.
You might see a person happy and smiling all the time and wonder, what’s their secret? How can they be so happy in this miserable world? Happy people are happy because they know how to keep themselves happy.
But how is that even possible? How do they do that?

Too cool to hold grudges- Why let anyone who has wronged you take control over your emotions? By holding on to our petty grudges you’ll only end up harming yourself. So, let go for your own sake.
Treat everyone with kindness- An act of kindness can actually raise your spirits, scientifically speaking. Each time you do something out of selflessness, your brain produces serotonin, a hormone that calm downs tension and lifts your spirits.
See problems as challenges- The word “problem” is never an issue for a happy person. Whenever you’re faced with an obstacle, try taking it as a challenge instead. A problem is basically seen as a drawback or an unstable situation, but if you see it as a challenge then chances are something positive might come out of it.
Express gratitude for what they already have- “The happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have,” this is a very popular saying which we all have heard about. You will feel more contentment and satisfaction if you start counting your blessings instead of running after what you don’t have.
Dream big- If you dare to dream big, your mind will put itself in a more focused and positive state.
Don’t sweat the small stuff- Happy people try not to overthink about any small situation. They know that life’s too short to get worked up over minor situations.
Get absorbed into the present- Living in the moment, is what they believe in. They don’t go back and forth between the past and the future. They always try to savour the moment.
Avoid social comparison- Everyone has their own pace in life, so what’s the point in comparing yourself to others? If you think you’re better than someone else, you start feeling an unwanted sense of superiority. On the other hand, if you feel someone else is better than you, you end up feeling bad about your own self. So, you’ll be better off if you focus on your own work and just be happy for others.
Never seek approval from others- I can’t focus on this point enough! You should never care what others think of you. Follow your own heart without letting anyone discourage you. It’s impossible to please everyone.
Take the time to listen- Listening actually keeps your mind open to others’ wisdom and outlooks on the world. The more intensely you listen to people, the calmer your mind gets, and the more content you start feeling.
Establish personal control- Positive people don’t let others dictate on how they should live their lives. Being in complete control of one’s own life brings positive feelings and a great sense of self-worth.
